By the time you read this post, I will hopefully be soaking up the sun on our sailing trip to the British Virgin Islands, blissfully unconnected and unaware of any real responsibilities for the next week. (Yes, please be jealous.) However, there’s no such thing as an island vacation without some serious beachwear, and I’m sharing some of my favorite picks for this season.
Best Beachwear: Swimsuits
One-Piece- The one-pieces of this season aren’t your grandma’s floral-patterned, ruffled-skirt of yore. You will actually want to be seen the ones by Solid & Striped. When you have clients like it-girl model Gigi Hadid, Queen Bey herself, super blogger Leandra Medine and a swim line designed by Poppy Delevigne, you know their suits are something worth noting.
I would also like to give a giant shoutout to Solid & Striped’s customer service. I was looking for a one-piece in a last-minute panic before our vacation. I placed my order on early Thursday morning and picked it up from FedEx before I caught my flight on Friday morning. If you’re in dire need of a swimsuit fairy, they really do exist at Solid & Striped.
Black Bikini – Call me Plain Jane, but you can never go wrong with a black bikini like the one pictured above from Target. Spice it up with some cut-out bottoms and you’re in serious business.
Best Beachwear: Hats
If you haven’t noticed by now, hats are back, and they’re getting a giant thumbs up from this girl. And everyone knows it’s not a true beach vacation without a classic floppy beach hat. Bonus Tip: Buy an extra large hat so it blocks the trashy beach novel you’re too embarrassed to display in front of your family. (50 Shades anyone?)
Best Beachwear: Espadrilles
Now, these espadrilles were my one serious splurge while in Paris. After traveling in them all day, my toes could not be more happy to be sheltered in these gloriously stylish and comfortable shoes. Forget the Birkenstocks, espadrilles are a little more polished, and on the top of my list for this summer.
Best Beachwear: Graphic Tee
Fancy swim coverups OUT. Cute graphic tees IN. If you’re anything like me, I like to throw on a lightweight cover up about the time that the sun begins to fade, but you’re not quite ready to throw in the towel on your beach day. There is nothing more welcoming and effortless than a casual graphic tee. Plus, they’re a lot more affordable than some fancy schmancy wrap cover up.
Best Beachwear: Sunnies
I’ve featured some of my favorite Summer Sunnies on DakotaChic before. While all still apply, I’m adding oversized rounds and oversized cat-eyes. Grab a pair for yourself this season.
