Blogged while riding in a bumpy pickup…please excuse the photos. ☺️
It’s no secret that I love lipstick. It’s one of the simplest tricks to appearing like you have it all together. (Whether you actually do or not.) And as much as I love experimenting with new colors, everyone needs a trusty, classic red to fall back on. Especially around the holidays, a classic red lipstick can add a festive pop of color.
One of my all-time favorite reds is Chanel’s Rouge Allure Lipstick in Pirate. It has some slight blue undertones, which means it’s not too orange, and it’s also not too purple. (I love it so much that I even wore it for my wedding.) But Chanel? That sounds expensive? You may be surprised to find that it’s only around the $35 price point, which is a small price to pay when it comes to the perfect red.
When it comes to applying red lipstick, I cannot stress enough how important it is to prep properly. I used to just apply the lipstick and go, only to find that the color would bleed around my lips within a couple of hours. I like to start by applying concealer or foundation to my lips and around the outsides. This helps act like a primer and gives you a more neutral palette to start with. Next, you’ll need to apply a lip liner around the outside edges of your lips. I found that the Panoramic Long Wear Lip Liner by Hourglass in Icon matches Chanel’s Pirate perfectly.
If you’re on the go and don’t have a concealer handy, at the very least, make sure you use a lip liner. It really does make a difference, and you’ll be one step closer to perfecting your classic red lips.
