If you follow me on Instagram, many of you have been seeing some very out of the ordinary content for me. Content I never expected would be in my rotation. Photos I’ve never even thought about taking before. And posts that have pushed me completely out of my comfort zone. … Gym photos.
Evolve Fitness Studio
A couple of months ago I decided to take the plunge and join a gym, and not just one that I’d pay for every month without ever actually attending. (Not that I’ve been known to do that or anything. #GuiltyAsCharged) I joined Evolve Fitness, which is a local Sioux Falls gym, and I have to say I absolutely LOVE it. It checks all of my boxes when it comes to having a place where it’s actually pleasant to work out.
- It’s a women’s only gym with the most POSITIVE environment. (This wasn’t something I was intentionally looking for, but I would honestly never go back to another gym. )
- It’s affordable. The monthly membership is even competitive with Great Life.
- It’s convenient and easy to get to in Sioux Falls.
- They offer a full gym AND a rockstar line-up of classes.
- It’s clean and bright with great equipment.
- They offer personal training and small group training.
- The ownership and staff are so friendly, and it’s really like a small community.
Does it sound like I’m gushing yet? Good, because I’m totally smitten.
Personal Training with Evolve Fitness
I also knew if I was actually going to get into this whole “working out” thing, I really needed someone who could help me on my fitness journey and motivate me to make the grueling 3-minute drive into the gym. So, not only did I join a gym, but I hired a personal trainer, and let me tell you…things are really starting to get serious between us.
I’ve been training with Brook VerMeer, who also happens to be the owner of Evolve Fitness, and she is absolutely incredible. We’re a little over 2 months in, and I’m not looking back. Before we get any further, there are a couple of things you should know about me.
- When I joined Evolve Fitness, my fitness level was at an actual ZERO.
- Point #1 is not an exaggeration.
Other than dance team my freshman year of college and an occasional yoga class, I have never worked out. I’ve never been in a sport. I’ve never had anyone show me how to lift anything. And cardio? Completely out of the question and nonexistent in my life. To say that I was terrified to start training with Brook was an understatement.
But Brook has been nothing short of awesome and encouraging. She makes sure that my workouts fit my level, and she is beyond patient in showing me the proper technique for all of our exercises. I walk out of our sessions covered in sweat, tired, feeling fulfilled and even a little proud of myself for accomplishing something I never thought I could do.
I know what it’s like to be so scared of the gym that you avoid it all together. But now, I actually look forward to my workouts and my time at Evolve Fitness. I feel more confident, and I’m starting to notice positive changes in my body and my attitude. If there is one thing you take away from this post, it’s that no matter your fitness level, goals or previous experiences, Evolve Fitness is truly an inclusive gym. Brook’s mantra is that that every woman who walks in the door should leave feeling empowered and not intimidated. If you’re reading this at home, and you’re thinking about joining a gym or just starting a workout program at-home… Go for it! I don’t know what I was waiting for all of these years, and honestly, if I can do it, I know anybody can.
p.s. In a couple weeks, Brook and I will share one of my favorite training workouts for you to try at home or the gym. Stay tuned!
